We all hope it never happens, but there are unforseen mishaps. if for some reason, wrecked, stolen, taken by aliens, but if youre eagle was gone, what would you buy to replace it.

thats easy, Id go SX4 next round. but I have had my eye on alot of those boxy old Cherokees.

My first response is another Eagle lol, but they are getting tougher to find.  If I were staying old school, I'd really like a 50's or early 60's Willys pickup or wagon.

If you're asking about a Non-eagle 'replace it' then probably a Subaru Forester (2000-2008 models).

Otherwise, I would probably try to find another eagle, but I wouldn't take the first one that came along.  I'd find one that had close to perfect body as possible (no rust) - and it would be a 4 door sedan.

I would try for an Eagle SX/4 but I would quickly run into the obvious problem that comes with that difference from my wagon. I need a mud/rock crawler wagon, not a sport or street car. My preference for the Ramblers or Javelins is immediately gone. Going back to a Concord, Spirit, Hornet or AMX is also out of the picture.

I rarely have passengers but when it happens I immediately rely on high capacity. It has to be 4 door. I would have to pick a late model Cherokee or something much older than the Eagle. The Comanche is also gone from that list. I might have the least loss in purpose, power and adaptability from a Wrangler, Grand Wagoneer or a mid 60's J-100. My needs are so unique and the Eagle fits everything so perfectly that it becomes hard to pick anything else. I am so used to driving a 4WD vehicle that it is the minimum standard for my choice of vehicle.

It sounds easy from an outside perspective but when you seriously begin to look into this it becomes a huge pain. I have a few dumb friends and one thinks my Eagle is too much work and I should just sell it for $700. Goes in one ear and out the other. What he doesn't understand is this vehicle has the most potential of anything currently on the road but I will never get anywhere near $700 for it. I would be lucky to buy a used vehicle in working condition for that much around here. Before he left for the East Coast he told me he has my dream car: A Wrangler with the 4L. It's not my dream car by any means but I don't know. He might actually be on to something.

i have a 3 door f f150 now it does'nt replace my eagles for attention, but it climbs a mud hill rather well. swamps well as long as no traffic jambs appear in them (haha) it romps through rather well. so i am rather happy to drive that when i do not drive the amc's.

Depends on which Eagle, the SX/4, would likely be replaced with a gremlin or hornet, maybe a spirit. The 84 sedan, either another 2/4 door sedan or wagon, maybe an SX/4.

It seems that through the years I have lost a few Eagles, but always ended up getting another one (had over a dozen through the years).  I have not been without at least one Eagle for about 20 years.  As heavily as I am into Mercedes Benz Diesel cars (I have had more MB's than Eagles), I will probably always have an Eagle nesting around here....Rich

I recently "retired" my beloved 88 wagon after 18 years. It had been a intown daily driver for several years but it was getting to the point of major money put into it.  However, that is a different story.

I would consider a Subaru Outback, if I could have found one.

I DID replace my Eagle with a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Same inline six & remained with the AMC heritage.

I think my Eagle was sad that I replaced it as a couple of days after I bought the Jeep, part of the trim from the Eagle was on the ground. it fell off the rear bumper.

The good news it that the Eagle found a new home, it is being used by the local body shop I sold it to. It is used to pull other cars around the yard.
