Does your Eagle have working A/C? Or perhaps none at all?
« on: June 30, 2012, 04:53:22 PM »
I'm really curious how many Eagles have working A/C. Mine does not, and I am going to get it fixed next year, because I am planning on going down to one car again after my lease is done.  But....I know there are some with icey cold, some with mods to remove it, and then those that never had it in the first place.....

I like to to tell people my Eagle is like a Ferrari. It's quirky, tempermental, border-line exotic, and something you don't see everyday.  See? Makes perfect sense....

There wasn't one that I could check off. Both of my Eagles have A/C. They have been swapped to 134a and don't cool too well on the really hot days when you really need it. On cooler days and in the shade they work great.  ::)

My 84 is like driving down the road in your refrigator. Wife complained she was cold and to either turn it down or off. My 86 is about the same but not quite as cold.

Believe it or not our Eagle's A/C has never been worked on and it continues to work quite well. :eagle:

No A/C on my Kammback.  None of the old cars I've bought have had A/C which is really disappointing.

Well I didn't vote, as the question was toward Eagle owners, and I only have a Concord. But my A/C does work, however even though it blows really cold, it has a hard time keeping the interior cool when its really sunny out. It used to work great, maybe its the R134A. But hot nights and cloudy hot days its the best.

I'm the only person that removed the AC for more horsepower?!

Well technically, I didn't remove it for the horsepower gain since you don't really gain anything. Other than it does not tax the system as much when the vehicle is at idle. I think that is when the AC units are the most "inefficiant" as they cause the idle to increase when they kick on.

At least that is how the Toyota I drive everday works. Maybe it works different in an older nicer vehicle.  :)

My Eagle was retrofitted to 134A before I got it.  I am very pleased with how it cools the car here in the So Cal desert.

I have an answer that was left out because it is a 1980. It never had AC and in 1980 they did not even give you a package shelf. I recently relocated an extremely rare dealer installed unit from 1980 and aside from the hoses have slowly required all the pieces needed for install. Now It is just to hot to work on it. Do you guys think it is really necessary to change out the radiator to a 3 row? It does have automatic transmission.

well that explains why Eagle Eyes doesn't have a package tray and or a/c because she's an 1980 too.

Ours with A/C and automatic has only a 2-row and I've had no overheating problems. I think you'll be OK with a 2-row radiator as long as you're not doing something like pulling a travel trailer with your Eagle. :eagle:

I haven't looked into why mine isn't working yet. I have the old school system so it may just need a boost.
FOR SALE
'87 Comanche 4.0L AW4/NP242 3.73 gears, lifted 5" on near new 33" tires $3500 obo
'82 Eagle Wagon (Brown Betty) 4.2L/727/NP229 and soon 8.25 rear axle and non-vacuum 3.08 front to match. 235/75/15 tires. It's down to minor body work (someone creamed my driver's door but I have another in good shape) almost rust free and interior work (seats are worn and carpet torn). $2000 but about to go up due to more work being done.

You can remove it by using parts from an AC delete Eagle. You would need the alternator bracket and a double groove pulley for the waterpump. New belts, too, of course.

That being said...I think Mudkicker has rigged his up using a single groove pulley.

Or my favorite an on board welder in its place.
