Well DUH!,
I am a moron!! I was re-reading this thread, and saw that when I posted in the beginning, I never actually put down my regular gas mileage, just what I get on the highway at higher speeds. On the daily commute, under the conditions listed in the earlier posting, I get between 24-25 mpg, with the 3.08 gears. Again though, this is at 50-55 mph. I have to redo the carb as the old girl has taken to stalling out everytime I lift my foot off the gas. I'm afraid that re-doing the carb (again) will make my mileage take a dive. We shall see...

That is real good mileage with the 3.08's.  See folks it can be done, just seems not with all of them.

If I can do like 40-45 mph in 1st gear and 75-80 mph in 2nd gear before it shifts (foot to the floor-pan) what do you think my axle ratio is? (3 spd auto)

I can't really do a very good job calculating my milage, my speedo and odometer aren't functioning and my gas guage stops moving at 1/3, so I'm not sure where exactly empty is,I'm scared to let it go once it hits 1/3 there. BUT I'm assuming my milage is pretty bad because I've got full time 4WD, no 2WD option, also only a 4spd. Anybody else have that setup? if so what's your milage, especially on the highway? I know mine is probably way different because of the state of the engine, vac hoses etc, but I'm wondering for a ballpark. I'm sure keeping up 110km/h on the highway seems to eat up gas, but with nothing functioning its hard to tell.

Top off your tank as you normally do, drive a known distance and back, top off again.  Should give you a ball park figure.

I'll have to wait until my next trip up north, start and stop driving in town doesn't really help me much. My GPS (which acts as my speedo for me) might help me out with knowing how far I've gone.

I use my GPS for that, I think the GPS indicates more accurately my true speed than the cars speedo does, especially with the slightly larger tires.

Only problem with the GPS is if the reception isn't as good it can have a hard time keeping up. If you accelerate quickly it sometimes takes a minute for it to notice.  (that was my handheld model though...the car ones might be different).

I just found this poll (good poll by the way) and Finlay ceased my whining about my 84 wagon with the I6 and 3 speed getting 17-18 MPG. (although I do drive it with a heavy foot ;D) And I drive at about 110 KPH on average. Next fill up I am going to see if I really lay off the gas and keep it under 100KPH and see what I get.

We are getting a classic bell shaped curve out of this poll.

Our Eagle's 258 is getting 13 mpg at this point but that's based on all in town stop and start driving. But also I'm keeping in mind that I rebuilt the carburetor and made some other adjustments during that tank of gas and replaced a few vacuum hoses. So it wasn't completely up to par in the first place, which had to effect the mpg. I think the next tank will show an improvement in the gas milage. Now it's a challenge to me to improve the mpg.

I think it's about due for an oil change too, which will help a little with the mpg. Personally I like Castrol Syntec and add a quart of Slick 50 with my oil changes.

My wagon is running pretty crumby, but my sedan (below) runs good and I'm still on the low end of this curve.  One of the reasons for that is 95% of my miles are city driving, stop and go, and my lead brick of a foot.  The couple of highway trips I made averaged up in the 18-19mpg range.  My worst mileage was in the dead of winter.  20 min to warm my car up...  It was really cold out there...  For a week straight...

The Eagles first tank got 13 mpg.

After a few carburetor adjustments and cleaning, a few new vacuum hoses and a few other adjustments, the next tank got 16.5 mpg. This was in-town driving.

"All things considered, 16.5 mpg driving in town with the air conditioning going and all the stopping and starting we did is not bad for a 4 wheel drive wagon."

All things considered, I think it is better than "not bad".
In fact, I think it's something to smile about. ;D
I'm right 98% of the time, and I don't care about the other 3%.
