I just looked at the old reciepts and figured out the MPG for the Eagle I used to drive (I clicked 13-15 for the current one).  I had never bothered to calculate this before because I never put enough miles on it to actually care.  But I got 23 MPG! And that was with a leaky gas tank and some other issues.  So now I can definitely believe what IowaEagle says about the 26+.  I also noted on my car that a previous owner had removed some of the vaccuum stuff, though I can't really tell if that was a deliberate matter or just an issue of hoses cracking and falling apart due to age and the resulting leaks being plugged as they occur.  The car had over 200,000 miles and by the way it's still on the "for sale" board.

Our Eagles each have their own personality.  Some get great mileage with minimal TLC and some with all kinds of tweaks and attention will not do as well and may never.

I also have no idea what gears I have in either one.  I can't read the stamp on the housing.  When I get a chance I will connect a tach and do some math.

I'm getting 16-18 consistently...on the lower end of the range during winter when 4WD is always engaged (stop 'n' shift) and so-called "oxygenated" gas (5% methanol) is coming out of the pumps at the local gas station. Most of my drive is on roads with speed limits from 45 to 55, but the drive to work is usually in heavy stop-and-go traffic...the ride home is wide-open. My Eagle is a wagon, 258 and auto, 2.73 gears. It has 149,000 and change miles, all on its original drive train. It's bone-stock; the feedback carb is still on it with the stepper motor hooked up and functioning, and with the original Motorcraft ignition.

Yes, for an emissions wagon that is not bad.  Real close to my Concord's performance and it is a bone stock all emissions functioning car too.

SX/4 getting a low of 18 to 20 during winter months and like the other one mentioned her  all emissions, carb, vaccum hoses in place.  Good to see another stock Eagle.

Bone stock wagon running all factory emissions? WOW! Good job. That's an accomplishment.

Thanks, j-j. I've had to keep the emissions equipment in operation because Colorado's Front Range requires emissions tests. Part of the test is a visual inspection for the components. They all have to be there and working. They even pressure-test the gas cap. How the car made it through with its uncertain idle is beyond me...I swear the car somehow "knew" it had to fly straight at testing time.

I admit to having rebuilt the carburetor, using the best parts from the original and two others that I bought off eBay.

It is really an art as much as science keeping the "80's era" emissions working. You are to be commended.

Again, I thank you

What year is your car and if I run across GOOD emissions parts that will definitely work, I'll keep an eye out.

Once again, many thanks. Mine is an '84. It has the "pulse air" smog air pump system, which has been trouble-free to present. At 150k miles, though, anything can happen. My biggest worry is the system's computer, which is going to be nearly irreplaceable if it fails.

I can't say enough for the TSM...I bought it shortly after I bought the car and it has saved my bacon.

Do the Kammback and SX/4 do significantly better than the Wagon and Sedan?

Kammbacks and SX/4's should do a little better, they weigh a little less.  Not a lot, but a little.

And it took AMC to show it worked - with about 800,000 of  the little monsters.
