Whats your Eagle's Gas Mileage?
« on: December 04, 2007, 06:40:49 PM »
My first try at posting a poll, I hope I am doing it right.  I just saw a post regarding gas mileage and the new Polls Board and thought I would try.
I am in the process right now of figuring mine out.
So what is everyone getting...

Ok, Sorry, first question... How do I change the poll so people can vote more than once?  In case they have more than one Eagle to report mileage on?

I can edit that for you.  You think five votes are enough?   Thing is you have to "cast" all of your votes the first time, you can't come back later and add those you forgot.  Is this combined city/highway or just highway or ??

The only bad thing about how these polls work is you can only select a choice once.  So if you have two Eagles that fall into a range given you can only select it once.

I voted 10-12, haven't really checked it, but with a non working gauge, and what I have put in it, and I did runout, all short trips and stop and go.

I am.  A little better than that with a fresh tune-up.  Mainly, keeping them well tuned, to include the carb and having the 2.35 gears, and maybe some smog alternations and the MUI (TFI) or HEI upgrades help.  And, I have learned over the years, some cars, even identical models, seem to just do better for no apparent reason.  It will be intersting to see what JoeJavelin gets on his as its an '82 SX/4 Sport as well.  Just that he has a five-speed and 2.73 gearing.

Only time I drop to 18 is during the winter using 4wd and letting the car warm up in the morning.  I stay in the 22-224 range and have been higher driving careful and running 60 mph. 4 speed, I6, 2.35 gears and running stock ignition

I'm at 18-19 on my daily commute which entails a combination of rural hills, sharp curves then city stop light traffic.  When I go on a trip and can stay on the highway at a steady speed it jumps to 25-26.  The first time I took the Eagle on a trip and realized the jump was that much I was amazed.

My daily commute is just a bit under eighty miles round trip, I'v e got the six, and no earthly idea what the gears are back there. I have a few pretty good hills to go up and down. The drive in is mostlt downhill, uphill on the return. The elevation here is 7,200 feet, where I work is at 5,000. It's two lane blacktop for the first 20 miles or so, with three traffic lights along the way, two are close together, cruising @ 55-60. Then it's onto the highway, for 8-10 miles, at 70-75mph. The last two miles are on a four lane city street with a few lights, but no traffic since I have to get to work @4:30am. If I take the highway all the way and run at the higher speeds, mileage drops to about 20-21mpg. Overall, I'm happy with the gas mileage of my car. When it is getting repaired, and I have to drive my '97 F250 4X4 with a 460, the 11mpg fuel "economy" makes me want to cry. It also inspires me to get the car fixed ASAP....

The economy of my sedan makes me want to cry.  :'(  I just put myself in the 13-15mpg category.  These guys told me recently in another thread ("Axle Ratio") that is lies mainly in my 3.08 gears holding it down (after all the upgrades I have done, and its not my driving habits either!).

Gauge might be off.  Mine at about a hair under quarter takes about 6 gallons if I squeeze the last drops in.  When I am at 3/4 empty it is darn close to 15 1/2 gallons.  Maybe I have the only correctly functionng sender and gauge out there?
